Bangkok, one of Asia’s most cosmopolitan cities, is the capital of Thailand. Bangkok is hot and crowded, but it's fairly clean and offers lots of fun things to do. Bangkok has great shopping, plenty of culture, amazing temples, delicious food and a decent art scene. Most of Bangkok's sights are concentrated on the island of Rattanakosin, often referred to as the Old City. The Grand Palace is the absolute must see site. The Grand Palace complex also houses the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, Wat Phra Keow, the most sacred Buddhist temple. Other famous temples in Bangkok are the Wat Pho and Wat Arun temples. Bangkok is a great place for shopping. There are many shops, shopping centers and markets to satisfy every wish. The nightlife scene in Bangkok is as varied as the city itself, from beer bars to exclusive clubs, night shopping markets, discos to hippie parties. Bangkok is a large sprawling metropolis, noisy and crowded yet peaceful and delicate. It is one of the world’s top destinations that one has to visit at least once in life.

    Experience
    • 5 hours
    • Guests are picked up from and returned to their hotel in Bangkok.

Discover the secrets of authentic Thai cuisine with a hands-on Thai cooking class at the Baipai Cooking School in Bangkok. Unlike the cooking demonstrations often found in hotels and restaurants, this experience is set in an ideal home-style learning environment where expert Thai chefs guide you through every step of preparing genuine Thai dishes.

This is a real hands-on cooking class, not a passive demonstration - you will roll up your sleeves, work with fresh ingredients, and learn the techniques that make Thai food so distinctive. Guided throughout by an English-speaking instructor, participants leave the Baipai Cooking School amazed at what they are able to cook with their own hands.

The Thai cooking class runs for five hours, departing at 9:30 am and concluding at 1:30 pm, giving plenty of time to properly learn and enjoy the process without feeling rushed. Return transfers from and to your hotel in Bangkok are included as part of the program, making the experience easy and convenient from start to finish, and transportation is provided in an air-conditioned vehicle.

Thai Dinner and Dance at Thara Thong

    Experience
    • 3 hours
    • Guests are picked up from their hotel lobby, with a general pick-up time of 18:45 for hotels in the downtown Bangkok area.

Step back into the elegant world of old Siam with an evening of Thai Dinner and Dance at Thara Thong, the riverside restaurant of the Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel & Towers. This exquisite dining venue is famed for its sunken seating arrangements, a traditional hand-carved teakwood pavilion, and an old-world ambience that transports guests far from the bustle of modern Bangkok, even though the setting sits within a stylish contemporary hotel.

Beyond the exceptional Thai cuisine on offer, evenings at Thara Thong come alive with cultural performances staged from Thursday to Sunday. Dancers dressed in glittering traditional costumes move through graceful, expressive routines inspired by the diverse provinces of the kingdom, while live musicians play traditional Thai instruments to complete the atmosphere. It is a rare chance to experience authentic Thai performing arts alongside a memorable meal.

The menu at Thara Thong balances heritage and innovation, featuring regional Thai recipes that have been carefully fine-tuned for contemporary palates, alongside special dishes given a creative modern twist. Whether you favor classic flavors or something a little more adventurous, the kitchen caters to a range of tastes across the evening.

Perched on the first floor of the Sheraton, the restaurant looks out over the Chao Phraya, Bangkok's storied "river of kings," and guests seated in the open-air patio area can enjoy a cool evening breeze along with sweeping river views. Between the setting, the cuisine, and the cultural performances, Thai Dinner and Dance at Thara Thong offers a genuine taste of ancient Siam wrapped in the glamour of a modern Bangkok hotel.

Transfers from and to hotels are offered only within downtown Bangkok and are restricted to main hotels. Pick-up time is confirmed at the time of reservation, with the general pick-up time from hotel lobbies in the city area being 18:45.

    Chiang Mai

    Stay from
    • Thailand
    • 2 nights
Chiang Mai is the hub of Northern Thailand and the Capital City of the Province of this name. With a population of over 170,000 in the city proper, it is Thailand's fifth-largest city. Located on a plain at an elevation of 316 m, surrounded by mountains and lush countryside, it is much greener and quieter than the capital, and has a cosmopolitan air and a significant expat population, factors which have led many from Bangkok to settle permanently in this "Rose of the North". Chiang Mai's historical center is the walled city. Sections of the wall remain at the gates and corners, but of the rest only the moat remains. Inside Chiang Mai's remaining city walls are more than 30 temples dating back to the founding of the principality, in a combination of Burmese, Sri Lankan and Lanna Thai styles, decorated with beautiful wood carvings, Naga staircases, leonine and angelic guardians, gilded umbrellas and pagodas laced with gold filigree. The most famous is Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, which overlooks the city from a mountainside 13 km away. Modern-day Chiang Mai has expanded in all directions, but particularly to the east towards the Ping River, Mae Nam Ping, where Chang Klan Rd, the famous Night Bazaar and the bulk of Chiang Mai's hotels and guest houses are located. Loi Kroh Rd is the center of the city's night life.

    Guided tour
    • days 4–6

Day 1: Markets, Ancient Ruins and a Kantoke Feast (L, D)

Your Chiang Mai culinary adventure begins at the bustling Warorot Market, where the sights and scents of northern Thailand come alive through local spices, herbs and everyday ingredients. Along the way you'll sample local snacks like sai oua, the region's signature grilled sausage, and cap moo, crispy fried pork skin, before wandering through a neighbouring flower and fruit market bursting with colour. Heading out of the city, you'll taste kao soi, the beloved curry noodle dish combining soft noodles with a crispy topping, before exploring the ancient city of Wiang Kum Kam. This excavated site preserves treasures dating back to the 8th century, including stone tablets bearing Mon inscriptions alongside ancient pottery and Buddhist sculptures. Returning to Chiang Mai, you'll pause at a charming café known for its award-winning coffee before checking into the Banthai Village hotel. The evening unfolds with a traditional Kantoke dinner accompanied by cultural performances, followed by free time to explore the night bazaar or a local bar.

Day 2: Tea Plantations, Sacred Temples and Street Food (B, L, D)

This morning takes you into the lush countryside of Mae Tang district to the Araksa Tea Plantation, where rolling green hills set the scene for learning about traditional tea cultivation. You'll join experienced tea pickers who select leaves according to age-old methods, then finish with a relaxing tea tasting session. Back in Chiang Mai, lunch showcases delicacies inspired by the Yunnan region of China, before a scenic drive up to Wat Doi Suthep, Chiang Mai's most sacred temple perched high on a forested mountain with sweeping panoramic views over the city below. From there, you'll continue to the hill tribe village of Doi Pui, home to the Hmong people, known for their beautifully colourful native dress and distinct traditions. After returning to the hotel, the evening brings a lively night street food tour, where a local guide leads you through the city's best food stalls and eateries to sample favourites such as pad Thai and the fiery, aromatic tom yam kung.

Day 3: Cookery Class at Grandma's Home Cooking School (B, L)

Your culinary journey through Chiang Mai concludes with a hands-on morning cooking class at Grandma's Home Cooking School, tucked away in a charming village in Saraphi district just 20 minutes from central Chiang Mai. This idyllic rural setting offers a genuine taste of farm life alongside its newly developed course into authentic, home-style Thai cooking. After an 8:30 am pick-up from your hotel, the class begins with a visit to a local market to source exotic, fresh ingredients, followed by instruction in preparing rice, including the popular sticky rice variety. You'll then gather vegetables, herbs and even free-range chicken eggs from an organic farm before moving into a soup and stir-fry session complete with tasting. The class wraps up with the creation of spicy curries, a true mainstay of Thai cuisine, and traditional desserts, each followed by a tasting. After enjoying the fruits of your labour at Grandma's Home Cooking School, you'll be transferred to Chiang Mai airport for your onward journey.
